I've been more than a fan of Takashi Amano since I first cracked open a copy of Nature Aquarium World at Old Town Aquarium in Chicago back in the 80's as a kid. I've always said (to the few who would listen) that my life long love of aquaria will always fall into two phases - before and after I opened that book. I went from cheesy plastic plants and failed attempts at salt water to striving for freshwater planted aquariums with an eye for Japanese design. This book is simply as promised. His collected works in one book. The photos are well reproduced as is worthy of his gifts as a photographer and the preeminent aquascape designer.A reference I will return to for as long as I continue to strive for his level of mastery. I will never attain it, but it's a goal worth striving for.RIP Amano-Sama
I wouldn't believe previous reviews about the bad quality of the binding and ordered it anyways. unfortunately it came exactly as described in other reviews. the book is just falling apart when opening it. very disappointing in general and for this price in particular.It is really a shame because the content is just beautiful.
This book is a must have for aquarists and makes a great coffee table book. Stunning pictures with amazing detail on glossy pages, plus anecdotes and tips from Amano himself. I find myself picking this book up at random times just to flip through it again and again,
I really like this book is all about pictures. If you are looking for a detailed explanation of how to achieve the aquarium in the picture this book is not for you, on the other hand if you just want to know what plants and fishes are in the tank and look into amazing pictures I would definitely recommend it.
This is the best aquarium book I have purchased so far. The pictures and page paper are very high quality. I especially love Mr. Amano's reflections on various topics for effective fish keeping in planted aquariums. I highly recommend adding this book to your traditional book library.
I loved this book. It gave me so many ideas to use on my planted tanks, and people love going through it while visiting. Almost every page is 1/2 - 3/4 full of pictures of Takashi Amano planted aquariums. The only drawback is that, if you have poor eyesight, it may be a little difficult to actually read. The printing is probably .5 or .6 font. I can't really complain about that. If the writing was larger, the pictures would be smaller, or the book would be quite over-sized. The book gives some insight into Amano's mind, and each photo is accompanied by a list of the species of plants and fish pictured.
Very nice book. You won't get any advice on how to make a nice aquarium, like all the other books from Amano, it is just a display of their aquariums so you go and buy their expensive products. It is anice book for having it for the pictures only, not for any knowledge.
